GEJ Presidential Palace Subsidy Must End: Nigerian Bloggers’ Protest

I woke up this morning on a very light note and looking forward to going to see the new mission impossible movie. As is my regular routine, I said a brief prayer (even though sleepy and mostly ‘Thank you Jesus’), went through my BB messages, read friends bb updates, went through emails and noted I had to apply to jobs and then entered facebook. That was how I came across this video ooo..

A supposed debate on the removal of fuel subsidy in Nigeria. The first 20mins had me bored and irritated with the sycophancy of the chairman and moderator. After they were done, the speakers started talking on the pros and cons of the subsidy removal and bla bla bla…all that kept playing in my head after one hour of watching is that these people must think Nigerian citizens are fools. They say what they think we want to hear and then go behind the curtain to laugh and sneer and do us yimu or hayn.

Then I remembered a conversation I was having with a friend a few days back on this and he mentioned how he read about the proposed budget by the Nigerian government for this year on a blog. I immediately asked him to send me the link and I as well googled ‘nigerian presidential budget’ and came up with this link(click on the link that says presidency). Below is just an image of snippets of the proposed budget converted to dollars.

Please make una tell me ooooo, wetin Mr president and people of im office de chop wey dem de spend $3M on food? Like someone commented on this blog, na ‘Roasted mermaids and barbecued angels?’ or is this food imported from the moon or pluto sef or another planet wey only him and im people know… meanwhile the average Nigerian survives on less than $2/day which is less than a $1000 a year {I can testify to this ooo. no breakfast, 2 packs of indomie and one egg for lunch, if you get soup already then eba for dinner}. Na im you de remove fuel subsidy and now bread wey be N50{33cents} don turn N150 ($1), pure water: N10 and a bottle of coke:N100…”Chineke”

ok, $2.3 for pencil and biro. Even if na vampire blood dem use do the ink as my friend mentioned.

Vehicle maintenane = $2.6million…he now wants to manufacture cars that fly since the roads are too bad for normal cars abi????
Now the average Nigerian that has managed to buy car, now has to spend N15k to fill tank…”Abasi Mbok”..na trekking levels now na..

The american government proposed budget as shown here shows mostly five figured amounts for meaningful and transparent projects that are beneficial to the citizens of the country meanwhile Nigeria proposes a whooping 8 figured amount for building and presidential QTR Maintenance.

I am beyond angry and appalled. I de vibrate for here.

Please citizens of Nigeria, let us speak up and fight for our right o..now is not the time for OYO {on your own}. This thing affects us all whether we are back home or in diaspora, because by the time you begin de send money to the people wey u leave back in Nigeria, na that time you go know say no be joking matter (unless you decide say u no get family for Naija again). I know say nobody wan die..lol..me sef I no wan die by carrying cutlass and matching to the streets. If I am guaranteed a peaceful protest and no loss of life, I go de for front with my placard ooo…but since I no de protest for main road, I go use my facebook, blog and bb de spread this message of a unified ‘NO’ to this madness taking place in our govenrment. Even if ASO rock is possessed by evil spirit, no be to carry Pastor Joshua go there make e bind the spirits wey de possess our leaders once them enter office.

We no say make you no remove subsidy o {I recently just understood what it all meant}, what we are saying is before throwing the citizens under the bus, make sure say we don pad ourselves well well with all paddables. That is, the necessary infrastructures and frameworks that would cushion the effects of this policy are in place for the people. #Shikena
